Weekend football picks

I was in Denver last week watching the Broncos beat the Jets and I didn't get on my computer to post my picks for the weekend. For the record, I was 10/14 last week, and I got all 3 games yesterday. I'm combining my college and pro picks this week because there are not many college games that I care about this weekend. So here goes:

Friday, November 25th
Utah 34, Colorado 13 - A month ago, who would've imagined the Utes could be playing in the Pac 12 Championship game? If they win today, and get a little help from Cal and USC, that's exactly what will happen. The Utes will do their part, lead by John White as usual as he sets the Utah single season rushing record.

#1 LSU 31, #3 Arkansas 20 - I think Arkansas will play careful enough to keep this close but LSU at home is just too good for the Hogs.

Cal 27, Arizona St 24 - This pick is mostly out of hope because I want Utah to win the Pac 12 South, but the way Arizona St was played the last month, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them lose, and possibly lose big.

Saturday, November 26th

Ohio St 23, #15 Michigan 21 - I think Ohio St's defense and running game get it done in the big house and spoil Michigan's chances of a BCS bowl.

Utah St 34, Nevada 31 - Utah St pulls the mini upset and becomes bowl eligible for the first time in long time.

USC 48, UCLA 17 - As much as it pains me to cheer for USC, they will help the Utes clinch the South by stomping on UCLA and officially ending Rick Neuheisel's tenure there.

Ok, on to my pro picks, and yes I did have the 3 games yesterday picked before they were played.

Packers 31, Lions 17
Cowboys 24, Dolphins 20
Ravens 20, 49ers 10
Buccaneers 24, Titans 17
Falcons 30, Vikings 13
Bengals 24, Browns 13
Panthers 38, Colts 17
Cardinals 23, Rams 20
Jets 31, Bills 14
Texans 20, Jaguars 10
Bears 27, Raiders 23
Redskins 24, Seahawks 20

NCAA picks week 11

So this week all I have wanted to write about is what is going on with the Penn St scandal, but I haven't been able to put into words exactly what I want to say. I will hopefully get that done over the next week. As for my college picks this week, I'm going to do what I should've been doing all along, only picking the important games as well as the local games. No more LSU vs Tennessee Tech etc. That being said, here we go for this week:

#7 Oregon 38, #4 Stanford 34 - I hope I'm wrong about this game because I want there to be as many unbeaten teams as possible to help mess up the BCS, but I think that Oregon is just too fast for Stanford. Andrew Luck will have to be phenomenal for Stanford to have a chance.

#19 Nebraska 31, #12 Penn St 10 - I think the beginning of this game will be very emotional and intense and Penn St players will play at another level, but the problem is, they just aren't very good and won't be able to sustain it for long. Nebraska weathers the early storm, and pulls away in the 3rd quarter.

Utah 27, UCLA 13 - Utah is finally on a little bit of a roll, mostly because of weaker competition, but the Utes have shown that when they don't turn the ball over (Jon Hays) they can compete with anyone they play because their defense is so strong. I think that continues today, strong defense and a nice game from John White should make for a fairly easy game against the Bruins.

BYU 44, (insert crappy WAC team) 3 - I'm sorry BYU fans, I just can't make a serious prediction when your team isn't playing anybody right now. Hopefully BYU's schedule gets a lot better after this year, but for now, at least you get to watch them win.

Utah St 34, San Jose St 23 - Utah St played inspired after the loss of Chuckie Keeton last week, and I'm interested to see if they can sustain that. The Aggies are much better than their record, they just need to learn how to finish games. Last week was a big step forward, and I think they will keep it going this week.

No update to my heisman picks from last week. Look for my pro picks either later today or tomorrow morning and my Penn St story sometime next week.

NFL picks week 9

Once again I'm counting on my NFL picks to save me because my college picks are not faring so well, against the spread anyway. I have a few upsets in mind this week so we'll see how it works out.

Bills 30, Jets 26
Falcons 38, Colts 13
Cowboys 31, Seahawks 17
Dolphins 24, Chiefs 20 - The Dolphins pull off the minor upset and give the Colts the full advantage in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.
Saints 31, Buccaneers 21
49ers 24, Redskins 10
Texans 27, Browns 13
Titans 23, Bengals 16
Raiders 34, Broncos 24
Patriots 30, Giants 27
Rams 27, Cardinals 17
Packers 31, Chargers 20
Ravens 24, Steelers 20
Eagles 31, Bears 21

NCAA picks week 10

Getting to the last few weeks of the college football season, and unfortunately with no playoff system, there are only a handful of teams that still have a chance to win the championship. Unless something crazy happens, two of the following teams will be in the title game: LSU, Bama, Ok St, Stanford, and Boise St. Right now I have a feeling that Oklahoma beats Ok St, Oregon beats Stanford, and Boise St will get screwed again for a one-loss team to play the LSU-Bama winner for the title. I hope that doesn't happen, but we'll see. That's my rant for the week, now onto my picks.

Saturday, November 5th

#2 Alabama 31, #1 LSU 16 - I think this game will not live up to the hype that's surrounding it. I think Nick Saban is the best coach in college football and with the game at home Alabama will make virtually no mistakes and force a couple turnovers against Jarrett Lee and Bama will roll.

#3 Oklahoma St 54, #14 Kansas St 31
#4 Stanford 38, Oregon St 13
#5 Boise St 62, UNLV 13
#6 Oklahoma 42, Texas A&M 27
#7 Arkansas 34, #9 South Carolina 17
#8 Oregon 42, Washington 31
#10 Nebraska 27, Northwestern 6
#13 Houston 61, UAB 24
#15 Michigan 27, Iowa 17
#17 Michigan St 41, Minnesota 10
#18 Georgia 45, New Mexico St 3
#19 Arizona St 41, UCLA 13
#20 Wisconsin 44, Purdue 17
#21 Texas 34, Texas Tech 31
#24 West Virginia 34, Louisville 27
#25 SMU 38, East Carolina 34

Arizona 27, Utah 23 - For as bad as they've been this year, Arizona is a much better team at home, and they have an NFL quarterback leading their team in Nick Foles. Arizona's defense is terrible, but if they stack the box and prevent John White from beating them, Utah's only chance will be if Jon Hays can lead them to a win, and I just don't think he can do that, even against a bad defense. I hope I am wrong, but when John White gets shut down, Utah's offense has been non existent this year.

Hawaii 41, Utah St 31 - I'd love to see the Aggies pull this off, but I think going down to the island will be too much for them.

My Heisman Top 5
1. Andrew Luck
2. Trent Richardson
3. Kellen Moore
4. Brandon Weeden
5. Russell Wilson
