All-Star Problem

Ok, so it's been almost a month and I have had a million things I should've been writing about, but I did not. From now on these posts will appear more frequently I hope. Anywho, on to my thoughts today. I want to rant for a minute on Major League Baseball. I love baseball, first and foremost. It has always been, and will always be my favorite sport. While a lot of people find it boring and refuse to watch it, especially on TV, I find the game fascinating and could watch it all day every day, realizing that with each pitch is a brand new scenario for that particular game. My problem with baseball today comes with the All-Star game that will be happening next Tuesday.
In every major sport's All-Star game, the starters are chosen by the fans. I have absolutely no problem with this because the game is supposed to be for entertainment, so the players in the game should be who the fans want to see. The problem with baseball is that they want to make the game count for something, home field advantage in the World Series in fact. You can't have it both ways, meaning if the fans are going to choose the players, the game can't have actual value. My opinion is that the fans should continue to be able to choose the players in the game, but take home field advantage being decided by this game. Fans voting usually means the best players aren't playing, just the most popular ones. This year, for instance, if the game is truly about the best players, Derek Jeter has no business even being at the game, let alone starting. And if baseball wants to be different in how they decide home field advantage for the championship, let the overall interleague record decide it. That is a lot better indicator for which league is better then just playing one game with mixed "stars." All-Star games are supposed to be about entertainment, fun, seeing our favorite players. It shouldn't have any meaning to something as meaningful as home-field advantage.

Til Next Time,
